I recently carried out a wiring loom repair on a 1950’s Cadillac. I was asked to investigate why the battery kept going flat. I tested the system with a meter which revealed a dead short somewhere in the electrical system. After testing all the electrical components, I was able to trace the short to damage in the wiring loom behind the dashboard. I stripped down the wiring loom (see photos) and found the offending wire as shown in photo 3. You can see that the wire looks different because the shielding has melted. I replaced this damaged wire and subsequent tests confirmed this had been the source of the battery drain.
